Materials needed:
  1. Cover: 1 sheet 8.5 x 11 inch paper - lightweight cardstock recommended

Printer Settings: The following settings work for most printers; consult your printer manual.
  • Page Setup: Landscape. Two pages of the booklet automatically print on each sheet.
  • Page Scaling: Select "Fit (or shrink) to printable area."

Step One:
Step Two: Print the Table of Contents to test your printer settings.
  1. Load your printer tray with 8.5 x 11 inch (letter-size) paper.
  2. Print the table of contents. One-half of the page will be blank.
  3. Re-insert the printed sheet into the printer tray, following your printer instructions for back-to-back printing.
  4. Print the acknowledgements page. The half of the page on the reverse side of the table of contents should be blank.
  5. If necessary, repeat Steps 1 through 3 and reinsert the paper in a different direction, until the test page has the table of contents on one side and the acknowledgments page on the opposite end of the other side, with the top of the TOC and acknowledgements page facing the same edge.
  6. Make note of the direction the sheet of paper had to be re-inserted in your printer's paper tray to correctly print the reverse side; you will use this information to print the body of the booklet.
  7. Set aside a correctly printed Table of Contents page.

Step Three:
  1. Load your printer tray with least 14 sheets of 8.5 x 11 (letter size) paper.
  2. Print the first half of the directory, the odd-numbered pages
  3. Turn off "collate" (which prints the last page first) in your printer settings, or re-stack the odd-numbered pages so page 1 is on the bottom and page 27 is on the top.
  4. Re-insert the pages in the printer tray to print on the reverse side.
  5. Print the second half of the directory, the even-numbered pages

Step Four (optional):
  • Insert 8.5 x 14 inch paper into your printer tray.
  • Print the map (The file is large to keep street names visible, so it may take a minute to load.)

Step Five:Collate the booklet in the following order:
  • Cover on the bottom with the image face down
  • Table of Contents atop the cover with the TOC facing down
  • Directory pages in order with page 1 facing down on the bottom and page 28/29 face up on the top of the stack.
  • (Optional) Fold one end of the map in 3 inches, to fit the booklet size. Place the map in the very center, atop page 28/29 and facing up.

Note: You may wish to take the booklet to a local quick printing shop to do the folding, stapling, and edge trim. Otherwise:

Step Six:
  • Fold the booklet pages in half
  • Staple in the center
  • Use a straightedge and a box knife or other sharp blade to trim the "creep".
"Creep" occurs when several sheets of paper are folded together.
Each successive page extends further than the others
and must be trimmed to keep a flat front booklet edge.
OR Order the pre-printed booklet for $3.75 plus $1.75 postage plus tax.
The booklet is a non-profit community service project and booklet income covers printing costs.
